Jardin Botanique du Thabor

Green and marvelous in the Parc du Thabor. A true emerald in the center of Rennes, both a French garden and an English park, about ten minutes’ drive from your Première Classe Rennes Sud Est hotel, the Parc du Thabor is a unique and charming place. It seems that there is always a good reason for being there, and just as many reasons to go back to it as its 25 acres contain many natural and architectural treasures: bandstand, grotto, waterfall, aviary and even a rose garden with more than 2,000 different varieties of flowers. Set up after the Revolution, it draws most of its wealth from the cabinet of curiosities of Christophe-Paul de Robien, president of the Parliament of Brittany. The latter contained one of the richest collections in Europe including paintings, sculptures, Egyptian, Greek and Celtic antiquities, art objects from all continents and drawings by illustrious Italian artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Donatello and Michelangelo. The collection of European paintings from the 14th to 18th centuries is also worth a visit, with masterpieces such as The Newborn by Georges de La Tour or Rubens' Tiger Hunt. Then the 19th century period is illustrated through works by Caillebotte, Sisley, Gauguin or Sérusier. For the contemporary period, you can admire Picasso's La Baigneuse à Dinard, as well as works by Sam Francis and Nicolas de Staël. A special place is given to contemporary artists from the region such as the Morbihan painter Geneviève Asse and the poster artists from the New Realism, Raymond Hains and Jacques Villeglé.

Rennes Opera House

Parc des Expositions de Rennes-Aéroport

Taking part in Yaouank means being immersed in the world of Breton culture, hearing Breton spoken here and there, in a group of friends, on stage or behind a counter, dancing with hundreds of people to the rhythm of accordion, bagpipes, bombard, violin, Celtic harp or singing (kan-ha-diskan) and discovering the emerging Breton scene.

Parliament of Brittany

The Parliament of Brittany, emblem of Rennes and the region. Built between 1615 and 1655 based on the plans of Salomon de Brosse (to whom we also owe the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris), the Parliament of Brittany is both an architectural and heritage jewel that is well worth a visit. Following a fire in 1994, it is undergoing a five-year restoration campaign which will restore the building in its entirety. Inside, you will discover French-style ceilings, carved and gilded woodwork, allegorical canvases, a Gobelins tapestry and also the superb Grand'Chambre. It has a carved coffered ceiling whose canvases were created by Noël Coypel and designed by Charles Errard, a painter for Louis XIV who was involved in the decorative work at Versailles. The Parliament of Brittany is one of the rare buildings in France to feature an undamaged composition by the artist. It is therefore one of the painter's major works and an exceptional example of 17th century pictorial art. To better understand the history and the works that adorn the walls, guided tours are offered. You’ll have seen by now that the galette-saucisse is practically an institution in Rennes. But do you know the half of it? Keep an eye out as you walk round the Marché des Lices. The price of this specialty is the same at every stand — it’s actually regulated. Fans of this fabulous snack have even requested that a statue of it be put up! But the greatest honor paid to the galette-saucisse is undoubtedly the anthem sung in the Roazhon Park soccer stadium that starts with the sweet words “Galette-saucisse I love you, I eat kilos and kilos of you!”
