Family trip to Rennes
Just arrived in Brittany? Drop your cases in your affordable hotel room, and head out to explore Rennes. There are so many stories to hear, and things to see in this thousand-year-old city. As you wander the streets, you’ll see the Palais du Commerce, city hall, the opera house, Rennes Cathedral, the Jacobin Convent — where you’ll also find the tourist office — and medieval half-timber houses. On Saturday mornings, head to the market in Place des Lices to sample some of the region’s culinary specialties.
If you’re staying in our hotels in Rennes for a whole week, save some time to check out some of the city’s iconic landmarks. City hall, the opera house and the cathedral are a must-see trio on a trip to Rennes. A stroll through the medieval streets and Places des Lices makes for a charming addition to the route. Lovers of art, history and heritage should head to the Museum of Fine Arts, the Brittany Museum, and the Criée modern art center. The city is also full of gorgeous parks, like the Parc du Thabor, and an ecomuseum not far from your hotel.
Take your family to Rennes for a wild weekend or week-long stay. There are endless activities for you all to enjoy in the city. Visitors young and old will love the Champs Libres with its science center, museum on Brittany, media library, exhibitions and planetarium. Or do you need to let off some steam? The Parc des Gayeulles has an ice rink, pool, a trail through the trees, a mini golf course and more. Younger kids will especially love an outing to the Ecomuseum. After a whirlwind day, head back to your hotel room for a restful night’s sleep…ready to do it all over again.

A gourmet stay with a Breton touch
To really immerse yourself in Breton culture, trying out the area’s culinary specialties is a must. Start at breakfast time, with the famous Breton salted butter. You’ll find it on the all-you-can-eat buffet at your hotel. Next, head off to sniff out some salted caramel, kouign amann, and other Breton goodies at the Marché des Lices. Tradition has it that you sample the unbeatable galette-saucisse at least once. Parlementins are a slightly newer addition to the block: an apple, almond and cider sponge cake. It was created in 1999 by Rennes pastry chefs, and is only available in certain stores.

Unmissable events in Renne
A vibrant city, the diverse line-up events on offer in Rennes comes thick and fast. During your visit to our Première Classe hotels, taking in one of the many festivals and shows is a must. Here, music is everything... Les Rencontres Trans Musicales, Quartiers d'Été, Rock'n Solex and Jazz à l'Ouest get bigger each and every year. The rest of the arts do also get a look-in, with the Travelling film festival, Tombées de la Nuit, the Rue des Livres, and many other events besides. There’s the opera house, too, where you can catch plays, ballets and more all year round.

Anecdote about Rennes
You’ll have seen by now that the galette-saucisse is practically an institution in Rennes. But do you know the half of it? Keep an eye out as you walk round the Marché des Lices. The price of this specialty is the same at every stand — it’s actually regulated. Fans of this fabulous snack have even requested that a statue of it be put up! But the greatest honor paid to the galette-saucisse is undoubtedly the anthem sung in the Roazhon Park soccer stadium that starts with the sweet words “Galette-saucisse I love you, I eat kilos and kilos of you!”
