Visiting Perpignan with the children
A weekend in Perpignan is all you need for the city to reveal itself to inquisitive visitors. Not far from your hotel, step through the gates of the Castillet, the main entry to the city in ancient times. Wander the streets at your leisure and revel in the traditional southern French feel. You’ll come across a number of iconic buildings dotted around, like the Palace of the Kings of Majorca, the Campo Santo, churches, Casa Xanxo, the Maison de la Catalinité, city hall and more. A visit to the Hyacinthe Rigaud Museum, a portrait artist for King Louis XIV, is a must. Several pieces by Picasso, a former resident of the private mansion, are also on display there.
A long stay is ideal for delving deeper into Perpignan and the surrounding area. Upon leaving your hotel room, a myriad of tours and walks are available for you to check out. With a thousand years of heritage behind it, Perpignan is home to many historical remains including its city walls, the paleontological site at the Serrat d'en Vaquer fort, and the archaeological site at Ruscino. Round off your trip with a visit to the Catalan museum and the Jardin de la Butte. They both offer panoramic views across the city that will take your breath away.
Perpignan is the ideal destination for a stay with the kids. After a peaceful night’s sleep in your Première Classe hotel room, head off together to conquer the city’s parks and museums. A stop to see the heritage at the Natural History Museum will fascinate both teens and younger visitors too. Want to really amaze them? Then best foot forward for a trip to the Aviation Museum, and its collection of old military aircraft. Make the most of the sunshine with a wander through the parks near your hotel. The Jardin du Glacis de la Citadelle and Parc Maillol are a great place to relax with the family.

After that, foodies will have their pick of an endless choice of Catalan delicacies. Make sure your visit to Perpignan includes plenty of gourmet pit stops in the local restaurants. Anecdote about Perpignan
When the famous painter Salvador Dalí arrived in Perpignan on August 27, 1965, he declared the front of Perpignan train station to be “the cosmic center of the world”. Every time he arrived at the station, he experienced peculiar emotions and visions. The Surrealist artist paid tribute to his endless source of inspiration by painting ‘La Gare de Perpignan’, which is on display in Cologne. In response, the station is decorated with frescos and artwork in the style of the Spaniard. If you get the chance, head over for a look — the station is not far at all from your hotel.
